According to the Longueuil municipal police, the charges against the suspect, who is known to the police, have not yet been confirmed.
The 30-year-old, the son of one of the two victims, was on site when the police arrived and had to be taken to hospital to be treated for nervous shock.
Later that evening he was met by investigators who subsequently arrested him.
As a reminder, the lifeless bodies of the two victims were found at around 11:30 a.m. in a building on Boulevard des Ormeaux, near Rue Mousseau.
A security perimeter was set up around the building and investigators were on site in the afternoon to meet with potential witnesses in the neighborhood.
Many neighbors reported that they had heard women’s screams coming from this apartment building in recent days.
“Obviously it seemed to be bubbling up. It screamed really loudly, but I didn’t know why,” said a neighbor who lives across the street from the two victims’ building.
In addition, a journalist going door-to-door in the neighborhood discovered a retractable knife left on the grounds of a residence opposite the scene of the tragedy.
The weapon is analyzed to determine whether the suspect used it during the crime.
