A single mum has revealed how she became a mother to four children aged 21 after having two ‘miracle’ sets of twins within two years – despite using birth control for her second conception.
Kaitlin Brooks, now 22, of Little Rock, Arkansas, was thrilled to learn she was expecting twins in March 2019, and welcomed her sons Denver and Dayton Brooks into the world in October, aged 19.
But the full-time mom couldn’t believe her luck when, shortly after her first birthday, she found out she was pregnant with twins again — despite using birth control — and she gave birth to Pierce and Piper Brooks in August 2021.
Remarkably, the mother-of-four claims she’s likely to have twins every time she gets pregnant because she releases two eggs during ovulation — a process known as hyperovulation.

How Kaitlin Got Two Sets Of Twins: What Is Hyperovulation?
- The ovaries normally only release one egg per ovulation cycle, but sometimes more than one egg can mature and be released from one ovary in a process called hyperovulation, which can result in you becoming pregnant with multiple babies.
- Multiple ovulation, or hyperovulation, occurs when both ovaries release an egg or when more than one egg is released from one ovary.

That’s why the 22-year-old, who fathered her second set of twins while on the pill, has vowed to eventually have her fallopian tubes tied.
But for now, Kaitlin, who described herself as “blessed” to have two sets of fraternal twins, said she is trying to become a surrogate to help those unable to father their own children.
Kaitlin said: “I had two sets of twins by the age of 21. I had my first pair when I was 19 and my second when I was 21.
“I think what happened is a miracle because I didn’t think I was going to get pregnant for a long time.
“My doctor told me that every time I get pregnant it’s going to be twins because I drop two eggs every time.
“The boys just turned three and the babies are one and I have four toddlers and they’re into everything.”
After having four children before she was 22, Kaitlin decided it was too difficult for her to risk another couple.
And although the single mother-of-four is on birth control, she has considered having her tubes tied to ensure she doesn’t have any more children as the pill has failed her in the past.

Kaitlin described herself as “blessed” to have fraternal twins and said she was “shocked”.
“Knowing that if I get pregnant again I’ll have multiples again is scary because I don’t see how I could make another set.
“I think I’ll have my tubes tied off because I don’t want to worry about that happening again.”
Kaitlin first found out she was pregnant in March 2019, and despite there being twins in her family, she was still “shocked.”
Kaitlin said: “I found out I was five weeks pregnant and had my first ultrasound at eight weeks and they were twins.
‘I was shocked.
“There are twins in my family, but it was way back in the days when my family had twins – my great-grandmother’s sisters had twins and triplets.
“Denver is my wild child, it seems like he has no fear in the world.

Kaitlin had to stay in the hospital for a week afterwards because she had postpartum preeclampsia – a rare condition that occurs when you have high blood pressure after giving birth
She found out she was pregnant again in November 2020, a month after the boys’ first birthday
“Dayton is more shy and keeps to himself, he can be like Denver at times because they’re always around each other, but their personalities are completely different.”
The 22-year-old said she gave birth on October 29, 2019, when she was 38 weeks pregnant.
Denver arrived first at 6 pounds and 10.5 ounces and his little brother Dayton followed eight minutes later at 6 pounds and 7.7 ounces.
Kaitlin had a great pregnancy, but ended up staying in the hospital for a week afterwards because of postpartum preeclampsia — a rare condition that happens when you have high blood pressure and excess protein in your urine soon after giving birth, according to the Mayo Clinic.

Kaitlin said: “It was another surprise and another shock for me.
“I definitely didn’t think it was twins again. I found out a little earlier that I was pregnant when I was three weeks old and found out they were twins when I was six weeks old.

Kaitlin added, “It was so funny because my mom thought I was lying to her about having twins again.”
After another outstanding pregnancy, Kaitlin gave birth to her second set of twins after carrying them for 38 weeks and five days
“It was so funny because my mom thought I was lying to her about having twins again.
“I was on birth control [the pill] when I got pregnant with the babies.
“I figured I would have to have a c-section because Piper ruptured and passed out at the last minute, so I was able to give birth to her naturally as well.
“I had both my sets of course, I had to have an epidural, but I didn’t have a cesarean.”

She had another boy, Pierce Brooks, who weighed 7 pounds 5 ounces, and a girl, Piper Brooks, who weighed 6 pounds 13 ounces.
And luckily she had no complications after the birth and was able to return home after 24 hours.
Kaitlin said, “People are very shocked when I tell them I have two twins because I’m only 22.”
She added, “A lot of people are shocked and they’re like, ‘I don’t understand how you do this?’ And I said, ‘I don’t really have a choice, you know, this is my life’
Kaitlin said she has no plans to have any more children “of her own” and that she is “happy” with the four she has now

‘I don’t know if I’ll get it [tubal ligation] made at that age.
“I’ve been looking for a surrogate because I know there are a lot of moms that can’t carry their own so I’m blessed to be able to do that and be able to do that twice with twins.
“I looked at that a bit because that would be great.
“But I just wanted to wait for the kids to get older when I did that.”
