The Service de Police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) reports that the young man was conscious during his transport to hospital and that a medical team confirmed he would be alive.

It was a call to 911 at around 10:50 p.m. that alerted authorities to a shooting that had just occurred at the intersection of Saint-Catherine Street West and Union Avenue.

When they arrived at the scene, the police learned that those involved in the altercation had fled on foot. No arrests could be made.

A security perimeter was established and a section of Sainte-Catherine Street West to Robert-Bourassa Boulevard was closed to traffic. SPVM investigators should try to interview witnesses and see if surveillance cameras in the area could provide them with relevant images of what happened.

It was the second shooting in the area in less than 24 hours. Around 3:15 a.m. Wednesday morning, less than a kilometer away, a man was injured by a projectile during a dispute at the intersection of Sainte-Catherine Ouest and Drummond streets.
