Downtown Revitalization: City of Quebec Offers Free Tickets to Shows for Second Consecutive Year

strength of Last year’s successThe city of Quebec will invest $500,000 to offer free tickets to the shows in the fall of 2023, with a goal of revitalizing downtown in the wake of the pandemic.

At least, that’s what we can read in a decision summary released late Thursday morning.

In partnership with Culture Capitale-Nationale et Chaudière-Appalaches (CCNQ), the city therefore intends to renew its initiative from last year and offer a second free ticket with the purchase of a ticket to a show in the 2023-2024 cultural season. The list of partners and shows will be announced in the fall and a promotional campaign lasting several weeks is planned.

Half a million

For 2023, the project will cost approximately $500,000 from a budget provided by the Quebec government. Of that, around $420,000 will be used to provide free tickets. That’s two and a half times more than the $168,000 invested in 2022.

The City of Quebec called last year’s campaign “a real success”. In just a few hours, 6,200 tickets were offered for 70 eligible shows. It has been calculated that this led to $311,000 in spin-offs at participating broadcasters.
