Dozens of people were injured in renewed clashes between Palestinians and Israeli security forces on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem’s Old City. On the last Friday of the Muslim fasting month, Ramadan, the Palestinian news agency WAFA reported 42 injured. For two weeks there were repeated clashes on the Temple Mount (Al-Haram al-Sharif).

According to police, several hundred people, including masked people, were involved. Rocks and fireworks were thrown at the Wailing Wall. Muslim believers partially left the Temple Mount. Police were forced to enter the area and stop the riots. The Temple Mount with the Dome of the Rock and Al-Aqsa Mosque is the third holiest site in Islam. But it is also sacred to Jews because there used to be two Jewish temples there.

The Temple Mount is under Muslim administration, while Israel is responsible for security. According to an agreement with the Muslim authorities, Jews are allowed to visit the premises, but not to pray there. Palestinians accuse Israel of wanting to expand the rights of Jewish believers at the holy site.
