The famous Australian scientist Dr. Karl Kruszelnicki explained why you should always flush the toilet with the lid closed
dr Karl, 73, who has degrees in medicine and biomedical engineering, said rinsing with the lid closed releases a “polluted cloud of bacteria and water vapor.”
“If you flush with the toilet lid open, you could brush your teeth with toilet water,” he said in the clip.
The popular scientist said that if you flush with the lid open, bacteria and water particles “break” out of the toilet bowl into the air around the bathroom.
“The plumes and water particles float around in your bathroom for a few hours before eventually they all land and some of them might even end up on your toothbrush,” he said.
“I think that’s a way to get the men in your household to lower the lid.”

Since it was posted yesterday, the clip has garnered more than 180,600 views and a flood of horrified reactions.
‘I did not know that. The loo is separate from the bathroom but will be flushed lid down from now on,” said one fan.
“And just like that… the seat will be down from now on,” wrote a second.
Many commenters were grateful that their toilet was in a separate room from the bathroom, and others said flushing with the lid closed was a household rule.
“My mother taught me to always close the lid. That’s my house rule. Always. Not in use, lid is down. Nobody wants to look in a toilet anyway,” one person explained.

“That’s why my toothbrush is in the closet and I’m also glad our toilet is separate from the actual bathroom,” commented another.
“I’ve been saying that for so long! However, I did not know that they lingered. Now public toilets will be an even scarier place,” said a third.
Some asked if the particles would make you sick, joking that they build immunity.
“You’re unlikely to get sick, but the concept of putting feces in my mouth isn’t something I want to do…” replied Dr. Karl.
