Drag meeting: “I won’t give up,” says Rita Biga – TVA Nouvelles

This weekend at the Palais des Congrès de Montréal, an event will highlight drag culture and help demystify prejudices.

According to Rita Baga, the event takes on its full significance this year with the increasing intolerance towards transsexuals and the numerous demonstrations against the teaching of gender theory.

“It’s okay to protest. “I find it even more frightening and alarming when there is a regression in the rights of sexual and gender diverse communities because our existence is not an obstacle to our existence,” she expresses.

She urges her critics not to focus on the fate of drag queens: “I wouldn’t give up.”

The organizers are pleased that the exhibition was not the scene of demonstrations outside the enclosure.

A spokesman for “Rendez-vous de la Drag” admits to having had several concerns before the event opened.

“It is certain that this is a snub to the demonstrators […] The drag scene is very present. It is one of the liveliest in America. Montreal’s drag scene is recognized. We want to show the public that the art of drag is for everyone,” emphasizes Yanick Brouillette.

An award ceremony and a gala round off the “Rendez-vous de la Drag” on Sunday evening.
