It has begun. Drake has been announcing a new album called “For All The Dogs” for months. Today he released the first single from this album and it’s his first-ever collaboration with fellow A-lister SZA. The song is full of R&B and is called “Slime You Out”.
Drake and SZA have a history together. On the 2020 track “Mr. “Right Now,” Drake rapped, “said she wanna fuck with some SZA, wait/’Cause I was with SZA in 2008.” SZA had to clarify that this really happened in 2009, which means she wasn’t with Drake went out when she was 17. This is all worth mentioning because “Slime You Out” is a relationship song, with Drake and SZA going back and forth with various petty accusations.
“Slime You Out” is soft and supple and airy. Drake co-produced the track alongside Noel Cadastre, BNYX, Dalton Tennant and his old friend Noah “40” Shebib. The song is an event by its very existence, but it doesn’t have any big, obvious hooks and it will be interesting to see if its cheesy sound and lyrical ugliness resonates with the masses. Listen below.
“For All The Dogs” will be released on September 22nd. SZA released an acoustic version of her hit song “Snooze” featuring Justin Bieber today.
