Rap artist Drake gushed over his compatriots and expressed his excitement that his hometown Toronto will host the 2026 FIFA World Cup in an interview with Gianni Infantino.
The United States, Mexico and Canada will co-host the prestigious tournament in two years. The first game north of the border is scheduled for June 12, 2026 in Toronto.
During FIFA's schedule announcement on Sunday, Drake sat down and spoke to the FIFA President about the incredible opportunity. The five-time Grammy winner told Infantino about Canadian culture and the excitement surrounding the country as Toronto and Vancouver prepare to host five group games each.
“This isn’t meant to be a Canadian ad, but we are the nicest people you’ll ever meet,” Drake said.
“Canada as a whole is an incredible melting pot.” But there are just so many different cultural experiences in Toronto. So when the world comes, it will be beautiful.”

As a long-time sports fan, Drake praised the passion that surrounds the World Cup as nations across continents come together for the competition. He also added that Canada will welcome this passion and diversity with open arms.
“There is passion in many things, but the passion for the World Cup is unmatched,” Drake said.
“Obviously I’m welcomed with open arms and there’s just all these different people there with passion and competitive spirit.” [but] for a great game and a great cause. I think it's just going to fill the streets with so much energy. “We are ready for you in Canada.”
The schedule announcement also included an appearance by Kim Kardashian and Kevin Hart as host. Hart praised Drake for always speaking positively about his city, while Infantino also praised the rapper for his dedication to his team.
“Drake was incredible,” Infantino added. “Also a real football fan.”
Canada's men's team is expected to compete in a World Cup for the third time in 2026. They qualified previously in 1986 and most recently in 2022, but have struggled, falling to bottom of their group both times.
Alphonso Davies scored the only goal for the Canadians on the world stage, the other being an own goal from Moroccan center back Nayef Aguerd.
