Sûreté du Québec (SQ) divers found the baby’s body in the Mille Îles river near the scene of the tragedy around 10:30 am Monday morning, police sources said.

On Friday night, a 40-year-old mother dived into the Rivière des Mille Îles in her vehicle with her toddler and four-year-old daughter. The car ended up in the creek in front of the LL Laval sur le Lac complex. The circumstances of the incident are still unknown, but according to our information it could be a voluntary gesture.

According to sources, the woman suffered from postpartum depression and attempted suicide with her children. She would have left the house Friday morning without giving a sign of life to her spouse, who would have contacted 911 around the same time the tragedy happened. The day before, his mother had informed him that she was not feeling well.

However, Laval police did not confirm or refute this information, stating that all hypotheses were open. However, it does not rule out that it is a deliberate gesture. Investigators have yet to meet the mother, who is still hospitalized.

Shortly after the tragedy, the mother and her little girl were rescued by first responders while the baby was still missing. The girl was discharged from hospital with her family later that evening. A large-scale police operation took place last weekend to find the child.
