Drama in the Bois-des-Filion: The SQ in search of evidence –

Five days after the tragic death of a toddler in the Bois-des-Filion, the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) continues its search for additional evidence, including a firearm.

Police officers specializing in ground searches moved to the banks of the Mille Îles River to further the investigation.

The murder weapon used by Yacine Mehennaoui is still not found.

The 19-year-old Quebecer is charged with criminal negligence causing death, possession of a loaded illegal firearm and obstruction of justice for attempting to destroy evidence.

Searches in the river earlier this week did not have the expected impact.

Significant challenges await the Sûreté du Québec, which took over the investigation the day after the tragedy, says a former SPVQ investigator.

“The procedures will be quite complicated as firearms are not easy to find […] It’s not easy at the moment. It is an extremely careful process, we want to carry it out before the cold or frost occurs,” specifies Roger Ferland.
