Drew Barrymore reveals her kids don’t love her surprise Christmas tradition

Drew Barrymore talks to her kids about their holiday traditions, and it’s not about presents.

The Drew Barrymore Show host has two daughters, Olive, 10, and Frankie, 8, who she shares with ex-husband Will Kopelman.

“I take them on a trip every Christmas. I don’t give them gifts, which I don’t think they love at their age, but I say, ‘I think we’re going to remember the place…the photos…the experience and that’s what I want to give you,'” she explained in an interview with Entertainment Tonight.

“You get a lot of things throughout the year, so I’m not like some weird, strict, cold mom who says, ‘You don’t get presents!’ I just feel like a better gift would be a lifetime memory. I would rather invest [in that than in] a dollhouse or something. It’s all balancing out and it’s fine,” she noted.

Because the holidays can be stressful for many, Barrymore shared that she doesn’t stick to any particular tradition and has her own perspective during the season.

“[I try] remembering that a holiday probably won’t be the same in 10 years, that your life can change dramatically and that new people and new traditions can come along,” she noted.

“I like to look at the holidays through a comedic, realistic lens, we’re going to have a lot of different holiday stories. Which ones would you like to continue and build up as a tradition? Instead of saying, ‘This is my tradition and I’m stuck in it.'”
