Police in Derbyshire, UK, said Friday morning that a driver who bought a Ferrari 488 on the morning of April 1 was also involved in an accident involving a 488. Police said there were no injuries.
That’s pretty much all you need to know, although police also posted some photos showing a sad and damaged 488 that was unfortunate enough to be bought by someone who crashed it almost immediately.
Police clarified in a follow-up tweet that this was “not an April Fool’s joke,” by which they mean their tweet about the accident is not a joke, as literally the driver of this particular Ferrari is indeed an April Fool’s joke.
According to the BBC, the crash happened in Derby, UK, more specifically on St Alkmund’s Way, and it happened just before 11am local time. The Daily Mail adds that the 488 was the only car involved in the crash and that the car was pulled off the road and the driver organized his own towing service. Police also told the Daily Mail that the driver “has not been arrested or charged with any crime”, suggesting that drugs and/or alcohol were not involved, although that also makes me a little more baffled at what is happening here is.

Someone bought a Ferrari and then managed to wreck it in less than two miles without doing anything illegal? This is the height of silliness, although the driver can probably ease any embarrassment by rubbing his face with a wad of cash. I’m sure they will also be tempted to buy another Ferrari and pretend none of this happened, but if they do I would recommend someone else drive it home from the dealer.
