Drones save puppies from death Salzburg

Salzburg hunters, along with farmers, are increasing the use of drones so that wild animals do not fall victim to the cutting knife. And indeed: the search for drones saves many animal lives, current statistics show.

Volunteers walk through the meadows before mowing, for example they find 35 pups in Wals and 20 in Oberalm (both Flachgau). In Elsbethen (Flachgau), drones are used to carry out aerial searches, saving 37 puppies from certain death by lawnmowers.

Salzburg state hunter Max Mayr-Melnhof says: “We have the opportunity to prevent the cubs from mowing the lawn with drones and this works very well if there is a certain temperature difference. The drone search works well throughout Austria and it is good that many volunteers have also volunteered to carry out the drone search.”

Cameras provide exact images and exact locations from the air, animals can be carefully removed, which will be much more frequent in the future: “The search will be massively expanded. There are a lot of people who actually have nothing to do with hunting, but who have drones and make them available to us”.

Using drones not only saves chicks, but also ground-nesting birds in meadows and fields.
