Raccoon rabies on the rise in the US Call for

Drunken raccoons rob houses

Raccoons do not live up to their reputation as thieves, and many of these small mammals have been observed in Germany robbing homes in search of food, but also beer.

Raccoons have reportedly caused up to $15,000 in damage to some homes in the European country, the Telegraph reported.

Aside from raiding pantries and killing pets like rabbits, they were most commonly seen drinking beer whenever they could.

“Raccoons are funny and smart… and they love beer,” Berthold Langenhorst of the German Nature Conservation Union (NABU) told the media.

The latter has already observed raccoons voluntarily knocking over beer bottles to consume the liquid trapped inside.

In addition to this problem of theft, fecal and urine contamination is said to be a growing problem as they regularly use places that are considered “shared toilets”.

Due to the better food, these animals are increasingly found in German metropolitan areas. After their introduction in the 1930s, there were more than a million of them in the country.
