The Peruvian team suffered a bitter defeat in their first test of 2023 against a Germany who didn’t struggle much in the 90 minutes. A brace from Niclas Füllkrug in the first 33 minutes of the friendly was enough for the lead Hans Dieter Flick stick to victory. At the end of the commitment, the coach agreed with the result, because it could be more voluminous, but felt it was “good” because his team was not 100 percent present.
“You could tell that the team played with a lot of dynamism. It was good, even if we weren’t at 100 percent yet, because we still scored two good goals and kept a clean sheet. That was important to us,” said the coach. The meeting ended.
The German coach fielded a mixed line-up of regulars and substitutes. There were also opportunities for debuts for Marius Wolf, Kevin Schade and Mergim Berisha, with the latter two seen as promising for the future of the German team.
Niclas Füllkrug, with his two goals the henchman of the Bicolor, expressed his pleasure to have started on the right foot this year. “It was about getting the international season off to a good start. We made it. I’m glad I did it (the double),” he said.
