No more disco for Dua Lipa? The British singer reveals her next album, due in 2024, will be a psychedelic pop homage to London rave culture. We find out in a long interview she gave to the magazine Rolling Stone, Here are some highlights.
DL3, as Dua Lipa's admirers are calling the album as yet without a title or release date, will not be a copy-and-paste of her wildly popular Future Nostalgia (2020). At Rolling Stone, Dua Lipa says she was inspired by key groups from the 1990s British music scene: Primal Scream and Massive Attack. She also announces that her appearance will be less conspicuous. “The album is a little more raw. I want to capture the essence of youth, freedom, fun and just making things happen, whether positive or negative,” she says.
- Looking for perfection
Anyone who has seen Dua Lipa in concert will confirm this. Every effort is made to offer the best possible product. Her co-workers confirm that she is also extremely meticulous in the studio (perfectionist, compulsive? The choice is yours…). She can rewrite any sentence until he thinks it's perfect. It took her months to complete Houdini, her latest song. Dua Lipa justifies herself. “I really care about the reaction of my fans.”
Who does a celebrity hang out with? Other stars, of course. In the case of Dua Lipa, we can even suspect that her address book contains the coordinates of legends. According to Rolling Stone, the Albanian-born artist regularly dines with Elton John and was invited to a Mick Jagger Christmas party. “I danced with him in his living room,” she says.
At 28 years old, Dua Lipa is a sweetheart, as the celebrity gossip sites would write. After dating model Anwar Hadid, she's as free as air here and, as she notes, finding love again is no easy task, no matter how attractive she is. “Meeting someone is a bit confusing. It's through friends of friends or someone you trust. I guess it’s not really that easy when you’re a public figure.”
Like Taylor Swift, Dua Lipa took charge of her affairs. In 2022, she left her management house and bought the rights to her music. She has this advice for young artists. “Pay attention quickly, especially on the business side. There aren’t enough people telling young people that.”
After a brief appearance in the film Barbie, Dua Lipa will make her official film debut in Argylle, a Matthew Vaughn comedy starring Henry Cavill, Bryce Dallas Howard and Sam Rockwell (in theaters February 2). The director insisted that she not take any classes before filming so that she could be herself on set. “When she was nervous, she hid it well,” he told the magazine.
