Director Matthew Vaughn's new film Argylle is a box office hit, despite its star-studded cast and hefty $200 million production budget.
According to THR, the spy film, which critics recently called “one of the worst films of all time,” is on track for an estimated $16.5 million opening in theaters after grossing just $5.6 million on Friday.
And the international numbers aren't much better, with Argylle expected to earn $16.9 million in those markets.
The film features plenty of star power, including Dua Lipa, Henry Cavill, Bryce Dallas Howard, Bryan Cranston, Sam Rockwell, Catherine O'Hara, Sofia Boutella, Ariana DeBose, John Cena and Samuel L. Jackson.
Reportedly, $80 million went into the film's market budget.

The premiere took place on January 24, 2024 at the Odeon Luxe Leicester Square in London, England.
It was released on Friday, February 2nd in the US and UK.
Directed and produced by Vaughn, the story centers on a reclusive, best-selling spy novelist whose quiet life is turned upside down when “the plot of the new book she is writing begins to reflect real events in real time,” according to IMDb.
The director worked from a script by Jason Fuchs of Wonder Woman fame.
Vaughn is best known as the producer of the Guy Ritchie films Lock, Stock And Two Smoking Barrels (1998) and Snatch (2000), which led to him producing Layer Cake (2004), Stardust (2007) and Kick-A* * (2010) directed. , X-Men: First Class (2012) and The King's Man (2021).
Early reviews for “Argylle” were less than flattering and may have caused moviegoers to steer clear of the star-studded film.
It currently has a 35% critic rating on Rotten Tomatoes, although the audience rating is now much better at 70%.
As for the Critics Consensus, it said: “Argylle scores with its silly, energetic take on the spy thriller, but ultimately loses its popularity due to a convoluted plot and an overlong running time.”
So far, there's no official word on whether the less-than-stellar cash numbers will impact the Universal Pictures and Apple Original Films production's release on Apple TV+.
