Collboni celebrates that Barcelona will host the UN World Summit on Drought in 2024
The mayor of Barcelona, Jaume Collbonihas celebrated the designation of Barcelona as the venue for the UN World Drought Summit in 2024, as it represents both recognition and a boost to the organization’s commitment Barcelona in the fight against the effects of climate change.
Ten years after the Geneva Declaration, the Barcelona High Level Meeting (RAN), which was announced by the President of the Government on Friday at COP28, took place. Pedro Sanchezwill aim to agree on a new and ambitious roadmap setting out policy responses to combat drought globally in the coming years.
The Mayor, together with the Third Vice President of the Government and Minister for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, Teresa Riberahave rated the summit as the most important international event in the fight against drought next year.
The event will take place between September 30 and October 3, 2024 and its announcement comes at a time when Barcelona, Levante and the entire Mediterranean are suffering from the most severe drought since records began, Collboni emphasized.
