Duel of premium smartphones: Oppo Find X5 Pro vs. Google Pixel 7 Pro

If there’s one area where the two smartphones have proven themselves, it’s shooting. That of Oppo bets on 50-megapixel sensors for its wide-angle and ultra-wide-angle modules (f / 1.7 and f / 2.2), while a third 13-megapixel sensor with a telephoto lens of 52mm allows to offer 2x magnification. On the Google side, a 50-megapixel sensor also controls the wide-angle module (f/1.9 optics), while a 12-megapixel sensor is associated with ultra-wide-angle optics (f/2.2) and a third of 48 Mpx is flanked by a lens that offers a 5x optical zoom.

Comparing their results shows that the difference between the two smartphones is small. In the wide angle, the rendering of the Oppo terminal is a bit softer, that of Google focuses more openly on the details, but it is clear that the two devices deliver equally convincing images. We find that despite a significantly lower resolution, the Pixel 7 Pro easily rivals its competitor and even performs slightly better in low-light color reproduction.

The telephoto module produces slightly smoother images on the Google device during the day, but they come very close to those of the competitor despite the higher magnification. At night, its software processing confirms its performance and reveals more details. It’s also its low-light performance, all modules combined, that allows the Pixel 7 Pro to win this round, but only by a very small margin.
