Dumped by Radio-Canada: The Gala Québec Cinéma is reborn at the Noovo

Gala Québec Cinéma, which was turned down by Radio-Canada last October, has finally found a new station. Noovo will host the next 7th Arts of Quebec awards ceremony on December 10th.

The Bell Media chain promised a “revised formula” on Wednesday. Sphère Média, in collaboration with Québec Cinéma, will be involved as a producer on the content of the 25th edition.

Full details will be announced in the coming months, including full information on eligibility criteria and the voting process.

It will also be necessary to wait until it is known who will take over the management of the event.

Radio-Canada announced last fall that it was ceasing to broadcast the Québec Cinéma gala. The public broadcaster has promised to celebrate local films with a simple variety and interview show.

“For 25 years, the Gala has been the best way to recognize and celebrate the artists, craftspeople and creators who make our cinematography so rich, but it is also the flagship event that allows us to reach the widest possible audience “The main goal of this revised formula will therefore be to reach out to people at home and give them a taste of our cinema,” said Patrick Roy, Quebec Cinéma CEO.

“For me it was unthinkable that this gala would disappear from television. If we want to promote our culture and our identity, we must seize every opportunity to make it known. I am delighted with this announcement for the image of our cinema in Quebec, which will continue to celebrate talent from here,” said Minister of Culture and Communication Mathieu Lacombe.
