This was hinted at by some sources including the TSN network on Friday. The 38-year-old veteran will thus give up his last year of contract; his average annual salary was $5.4 million.

According to radio station TSN 1260, Oilers general manager Ken Holland had asked Keith to give him an answer on his intentions by Saturday to better plan for the sequel. Consequently, the former Chicago Blackhawks will give Edmonton more room under the salary cap.

Keith was acquired by the Hawks on July 12, 2021 and had 21 points, including 20 assists, in 64 games last regular season while maintaining a +15 differential. He won two Norris Trophies in his career (2009-2010 and 2013-2014) and the Conn-Smythe in 2014-2015. In 1256 games he collected 646 points.
