One of the most memorable episodes of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar was Uruguay’s early elimination. The Uruguayan team beat Ghana at the end of the group stage but failed to qualify for the round of 16. This caused trouble for their players and after the final whistle there were various attacks from footballers such Edinson Cavani, Josema Giménez and goalkeeper Fernando Muslera.
After several weeks, FIFA closed its investigation into what happened at Al-Janoub Stadium and issued a statement to inform the South American team about the sanctions.

“(…) The FIFA Disciplinary Committee holds the Uruguayan Football Confederation (AUF) responsible for the discriminatory behavior of its fans, as well as inappropriate behavior, offensive and inappropriate behavior and non-compliance with the principles of sportsmanship of the members of its national team,” the statement reads Document.
Likewise, the report reveals that the next FIFA-organized match that will be hosted by its senior national team will see the Uruguayan Football Federation face the “partial closure of the stadium (grandstands behind the goals) and a fine of 50,000 Swiss francs (54,000 U.S. Dollar). )”.
For its part, the company also decided to suspend the athletes involved in the incidents: José María Giménez and Fernando Muslera received a four-game penalty, while Edinson Cavani and Diego Godín will miss one game of the team.
