Two 911 calls emerged around the time of Steelers quarterback Dwayne Haskins’ death, beginning to tell the story of what happened that morning.
Haskins’ wife, Kalabrya, called 911 from Pittsburgh and said Haskins was walking to get gas in Florida after becoming stranded in his car. The audio was received first by Miami-based Fox Sports reporter Andy Slater. Kalabrya had been desperate to reach out to the Steelers quarterback after he failed to get back to her as promised.
“I’ve been calling over and over,” she told the officer. “He did not answer. Eventually, after 10 minutes of calls on the phone, it finally cut off. It doesn’t work now. I had his location. I just want someone to go around and see if their car is there and if they’re okay and if anything happened to them.”

Haskins was hit and killed by a dump truck in the early hours of April 9 while walking on I-595 West at the I-95 interchange outside Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport. He had trained with Steelers teammates in the area.
It was previously unclear why Haskins ran on the South Florida highway. However, a witness screamed and called 911 after witnessing the accident. After a minute of screaming, the witness appears to call back.

“A man was hit in front of me. I was walking down the street and saw a dump truck hit the man,” the witness said.
