Donald Trump repeatedly shook his head as rape accuser E. Jean Carroll told a New York court that he had “destroyed” her reputation by lying about sexually abusing her and calling her a “crazy job.”
The columnist took the stand in the $10 million libel trial Wednesday morning, claiming the 77-year-old former president continued to lie about her and the attack.
A New York jury found last year that Trump sexually abused Carroll in a Bergdorf Goodman dressing room in the 1990s. The new trial is based on comments he made about her during his term as president.
Carroll's dramatic statement began after Trump was pictured leaving Trump Tower early Wednesday morning with mysterious red cuts on his hands.
Asked by her lawyer Roberta Kaplan why she was in court, Carroll said: “Donald Trump attacked me and when I wrote about it he said it never happened.”

“He lied and destroyed my reputation.”
Trump could be seen shaking his head dismissively.
Carroll told the court that in the same courtroom last year, in a separate trial, a different jury found that she had been “sexually abused by Donald Trump.”
After calling her a liar during her first public appearance in 2019, Trump “continued to lie,” Carroll said.
“He lied last month, he lied on Sunday, he lied yesterday,” she said. “I'm here to take back my reputation and stop him from telling lies.”
Carroll said she spent 50 years building her reputation as an advice columnist by “sticking to the truth.”
When asked how her reputation had been destroyed, she said that the day before her statement she saw a comment on Twitter, formerly known as X, that she was a “fraud.”
She said: “Before, I was only perceived as a journalist.” Now I am known as a liar, a fraud and a madman.

Carroll, pictured arriving in Cout on Wednesday, said she had spent 50 years building her reputation as an advice columnist by “sticking to the truth”.
“People aren’t eager to write to an advice columnist the president thinks is a disgrace.”
Carroll told a Republican family about growing up in rural Indiana and winning a beauty pageant in her youth.
She had her first article written at the age of 13, but had to wait two decades until she celebrated her first success at the age of 36.
But the mood remained testy and after an objection, Judge Kaplan said: “Let’s make this clear to both sides.”
“The first lawyer to say something when a witness testifies.” “This is not tag team advocacy.”
