In the next few chapters, the La Selvas’ eldest son attends the engagement dinner of the two families. However, Caio lacks the elegance of a lawyer and will shock everyone at the event with his attitude.

Sitting at the table, Caio shows that he doesn’t care about the rules of etiquette. The way the cat eats spaghetti terrifies the bride’s family:
“I love pasta. Especially this one. I like to suck on the strings…like that.”
Irene, of course, criticizes her stepson’s manners, who replies:
“What about it? I’m not skinny, no.”

Then Gladys (Leona Cavalli) asks to set the wedding date, explaining that her daughter has already waited too long to enter.
“I agreed to the marriage today, and am I going to handcuff myself tomorrow?” asks Caio.

Once again Irene warns the groom about his lack of etiquette:
“It’s not handcuffs, you’re lucky to marry a woman like Graça.”
“I’ll get married tomorrow if you want,” says Graça.

Gladys suggests having a discreet wedding just for the family, and Caio asks his motherinlaw:
