Eagle-eyed viewers spot the lavish silver leaf necklace worn by stars

Almost half a century later, still dazzling: eagle-eyed viewers spot the lavish silver-leaf “hand-me-down” necklace worn by stars in Agatha Christie thrillers, historical dramas and now Netflix’s hit Wednesday drama

With her statement jewelry and glamorous couture, Larissa Weems – from the Netflix drama Wednesday – isn’t the obvious candidate for a hand-me-down.

But keen-eyed viewers have discovered that a lavish silver-leaf necklace worn by the character was on our screens long before the birth of the actress who plays her – Gwendoline Christie, 44.

The chain is currently enjoying its seventh incarnation, on the neck of the icy Headmaster in the Addams Family spin-off.

His first leading lady was screen beauty Jacqueline Bisset, who played the elegant Helena Andrenyi in the 1974 theatrical adaptation of Agatha Christie’s Murder on the Orient Express.

It then made its next appearance in 1979, worn by Sarah Jane Curran in the BBC historical drama Prince Regent, about the life and love of future King George IV.

According to website Recycled Movie Costumes, the necklace then seemed to fall out of favor with costume designers until it was revived in the 1997 film The Serpent’s Kiss starring Greta Scacchi.

He made a comeback after the turn of the millennium, appearing on both the small and big screens.

In 2005 it was worn by Holly Radford in the BBC drama documentary Beethoven and two years later by Giovanna Mezzogiorno in the film adaptation of Gabriel Garcia Marquez’s Love In The Time Of Cholera.

She said: “It’s the first time I’ve felt beautiful on screen … Like her [Atwood] made me feel like my body was celebrated and beautiful.

“I never felt like I had anything to hide or be ashamed of. She made me feel amazing.’

It’s not the first time Netflix has reused props. Last month, it was revealed that a dress worn by Emma Corrin in the streaming service’s film adaptation of DH Lawrence’s Lady Chatterley’s Lover was also featured in a number of other productions.
