Eagles-Chiefs MNF Super Bowl rematch draws huge numbers – NBC Sports Philadelphia

It was the only game everyone in Philadelphia marked on their calendar when the 2023 NFL schedule was released.

Week 11. Monday Night Football. Arrowhead Stadium. Super Bowl LVII rematch between the Eagles and Chiefs.

They also couldn’t have written a better script to headline the matchup. The Eagles and Chiefs were both coming off a bye week, sitting at the top of the league based on their records, and had two MVP-caliber quarterbacks going head-to-head.

It was a recipe for success.

Revenge of last year’s Super Bowl? Yes. Potential as a preview of this year’s Super Bowl? Also yes.

And from the looks of it, it might not be a bad thing for the NFL.

Sports and business reporter Joe Pompliano shared that Monday night’s game averaged a whopping 28.9 million viewers. The number of viewers also reached its peak at 31.2 million viewers. Not only was it the most-watched game of the NFL season, it is also the highest-rated Monday Night Football game in 27 years (Packers at Cowboys in 1996).

It was an exciting film that was worth watching from start to finish. The 21:17 victory was the Eagles’ first against the Chiefs in the Andy Reid era. It was also the first time that Jason Kelce beat his younger brother Travis in the NFL. And while a win in November can’t take away the pain of a Super Bowl loss, this is definitely a game the Eagles wanted.

The Eagles also played their highest-rated game of the season before Monday with their Week 9 matchup against the Cowboys. The game averaged 27.1 million viewers. Now the first two places belong to the birds.

It can not be denied. Everyone loves watching the Eagles…and the numbers prove it.
