Eagles running back D'Andre Swift and defensive tackle Fletcher Cox are officially inactive for the regular season finale at MetLife Stadium.
Swift, 24, entered the weekend as questionable with an illness after being limited in attendance on Friday.
The Philadelphia native had a career season in 2023. He carried the ball 229 times for 1,049 yards and 5 touchdowns and also caught 39 passes for 214 yards and another score. He should be ready to compete in the playoffs next week. Without Swift, the Eagles will have Kenny Gainwell, Boston Scott and Rashaad Penny active for this game.
Meanwhile, the Eagles are giving the 33-year-old Cox a rest. Even after missing a rare game earlier this season, Cox still played 684 snaps (62%) this season in his 12th NFL season.
Here is the full list of inactives:
RB D'Andre Swift (illness)
CB Darius Slay (knee)
WR DeVonta Smith (ankle)
DT Fletcher Cox
QB Tanner McKee
OL Tyler Steen
Both Slay and Smith were ruled out on Friday, but it sounds like both will be ready for next weekend's playoff game. Slay has now missed four straight games after undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery but returned to practice this week. Smith suffered a sprained ankle in last week's game and will miss the first game of his NFL career on Sunday.
Had this been a playoff game, both Slay and Smith likely would have played. But the playoffs are next week and MetLife Stadium has notoriously bad turf.
Defensive back Tristan McCollum was called up from the practice squad for this game and is active.
The Eagles come into this game needing help to win the NFC East. It will take a Cowboys win and a loss for the Commanders to win the division and secure the No. 2 seed. If one of those two things doesn't happen, the Eagles will be the No. 5 seed.
The Cowboys-Commanders game is also at 4:25 p.m., so the Eagles will play to win. But if the game no longer matters in the second half, it wouldn't be surprising to see some regular players withdrawn.
