Let’s get to it Philadelphia Eagles Left …
Eagles defensive coordinator Sean Desai on Jalen Carter: “He’s a sponge” – NFL.com
The Eagles’ earthmover has recorded 3.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, four QB hits and 12 tackles, as well as 164 defensive snaps (just 51% of the Eagles’ defensive plays) in five games. In Sunday’s win over the Los Angeles Rams, Carter had a monster game with four tackles, two sacks, two tackles for loss, two QB hits and four QB pressures. According to Next Gen Stats, he was pressured at least four times in every game. All told, Carter has racked up 25 pressures in his first five games of the Next Gen era – nine more than any other rookie defensive tackle.

#3: Jalen Carter, DT – Philadelphia Eagles. The best defensive player in the 2023 NFL Draft can play football… WHO KNEW THAT?! We all know why Carter fell off the field due to off-field issues, but no defensive rookie has made as big of an impact in five games as Carter. From the looks of it, he’s ever been the dominant force under center that he was at Georgia. Carter collapsed with 12 tackles, 3.5 sacks and two forced fumbles in five starts, wreaking havoc on opposing quarterbacks. When Carter isn’t stuffing the stat sheet, he’s making life easier for everyone around him and showing in every way that he can be a force to be reckoned with in the NFL for a long, long time.
Top 2023 NFL Rookies: Ranking the 10 Best Young First-Year QBs – ESPN
2. Jalen Carter, DT, Philadelphia Eagles. Stats: 12 tackles, 3.5 sacks, 2 forced fumbles. Draft: No. 9 overall. Carter’s disruptive qualities on the Eagles’ defense have undoubtedly ensured he is the best rookie in the NFL. He has 12 pressures and ranks 13th in the league with a 23.5% pass rush win rate. If you look at his tape, you can see his interior matchup skills, his power, and his initial first-step quickness. Carter has game-winning talent at a premier position, and if he continues to play like this, he’ll be on his way to being named Defensive Rookie of the Year.
Jalen Carter favored for Rookie of the Year but says he still has a lot to improve on – PFT
Eagles defensive tackle Jalen Carter is the betting favorite to be named the NFL’s Defensive Rookie of the Year, but he believes he still has a lot more work to do. When asked if he felt unstoppable, Carter said he didn’t see it that way. “No, I wouldn’t say he’s unstoppable,” Carter said, via NBCSportsPhiladelphia.com. “I still have a lot to improve on, man. There are many plays where I could have won my reputation, but I was denied that reputation. So I just have to get better every week.
Roob’s Eagles Stats: Some Crazy Carter, Brown and Covey Numbers – NBCSP
CARTER, THE UNSTOPPABLE SACK MACHINE: Carter had two sacks on Sunday, becoming the first Eagles rookie defensive tackle with two sacks in a game since Corey Simon had two sacks against the Saints in the Superdome in 2000. The Eagles’ only other rookie interior lineman with two sacks a game (excluding the 1987 strike replacement games) is Jerome Brown, who had two against the Cards at Busch Stadium in 1987. Carter now has 3½ sacks, the most by an Eagle in his first five games since Simon had 4.0 in 2000. Carter also has four tackles for loss and four quarterback hits and is the first interior defensive lineman with 3½ sacks, four TfL and four QB hits in his first five games since the Patriots’ Chris Jones in 2013.
Eagles film analysis: All-22 offensive scores from the Rams game – BGN
Let’s talk about Redzone. The Eagles are in a bad place right now. I’ll be honest, I can’t really figure out why, so I don’t have too much to say here at the moment. But I think the Eagles should commit to playing more and getting some tough yards. Maybe even consider bringing in someone like Rashaad Penny who can gain an extra yard or two after contact? Hurts just looks a little shaky in the redzone right now and the Eagles need to sort that out because it will matter at some point this year.
NFC East Mixtape Vol.131: Eagles are having a great week – BGN Radio
Brandon Lee Gowton and RJ Ochoa recap the events of Week 5 in the division and are joined by a very special guest, Rob “Stats” Guerrera, who shares his thoughts on the 49ers’ destruction of the Cowboys.
NFC Hierarchy/Obituary: Week 6 Edition – PhillyVoice
2) Eagles (5-0): For a team that reached the Super Bowl last season and boasts a 5-0 record, the Eagles almost feel a little under the radar. • The 49ers destroy everyone in their path. • The Cowboys have had a couple of blowout wins and their matchup against the 49ers on Sunday night was touted as a possible preview of the NFC Championship Game. Plus, they are definitely always overrated. • The Chiefs have all the Taylor Swift nonsense. • The Dolphins are a fun team with extreme speed. • Even locally, some attention is on the Eagles, as the extremely likeable Phillies are in the playoffs. And yet, despite some legitimate douchebags, they’re making good progress and piling up victories.
Spadaro: AJ Brown picks up where he left off in 2022 – PE.com
There are so many weapons in the Eagles’ offense and only one football, and each player understands that over the course of a 17-game regular season, it takes turns to see who gets the most football. In the last three games, wins over Tampa Bay, Washington and the Rams, wide receiver AJ Brown has had his turn and he has totaled 24 receptions, 433 yards and two touchdowns. This season, Brown is tied for eighth in the league with 35 receptions, fourth with 541 yards, sixth with 26 first downs and sixth with 195 yards after the catch. “Everyone in this offense is going to make plays and you just have to take advantage when their number is called,” Brown said. “It’s the nature of our job that we all want football, but it’s just not going to work that way. We all have to do our part to help this team win. That’s what it’s all about, so I know I’ve been letting the ball pass to me a lot lately and it might not be the case next week. That’s just how it is.” Brown, of course, had a huge impact on the 2022 Eagles, setting a franchise record with 1,496 receiving yards to go, as well as 11 touchdowns and 88 receptions. He and DeVonta Smith are the perfect tandem, complementing and lending each other the defensive second players the necessary appeal.
Best bets of NFL Week 6: The Lions and Eagles against the spread – The Athletic
Philadelphia Eagles -6.5 (-110) at New York Jets. The Jets’ offensive line is banged up, as they just lost Alijah Vera-Tucker for the year with a torn Achilles tendon. A weak, injured offensive line will struggle against the Eagles’ strong defensive front seven. Jalen Carter is proving to be one of the best picks in last year’s NFL Draft and I can’t miss this matchup. Maybe this Jets defense is a bit overrated. We will see. Worst betting line: Eagles -6.5 (-115)
Report: Jets ‘exploring options’ for Mecole Hardman, including possible trade – Gang Green Nation
I’m not sure I fully understand Hardman’s motivations for leaving. Hardman is currently losing snaps to Randall Cobb, who was involved in almost half of the offensive plays as the number three wide receiver. In those snaps, Cobb totaled three catches for 20 yards. You don’t have to be particularly enthusiastic about Hardman to think he could easily overshadow this production. At the very least, his speed would at least pose a threat that Cobb doesn’t possess. Considering how little Cobb has provided, I think the Jets would try to replace him and not provide the most logical replacement.
Mike McCarthy led as poor an offensive performance as Sunday night’s in recent memory – Blogging The Boys
To be clear, these are cases (starting with the most recent) in which a team had no more than 197 yards of total offense and committed at least four turnovers on offense in the same game. You’ll note that the Cowboys are our most recent addition, but that the third-to-last team to do so before Sunday was the 2015 Green Bay Packers. I wonder who trained them and punished their offensive! Hmmm.
A roadmap for the remainder of the 2023 season in Washington. Part 1. – Hogs Haven
Let’s be clear: This season is almost certainly lost, whether fans, coaches and owners want to believe it or not. Therefore, there is little benefit in maintaining the current regime. The best we can hope for is the traditional Rivera rally toward mediocrity by the end of the season. Retaining the coaching staff only delays the inevitable, whether out of hope for a turnaround that almost certainly won’t happen or out of a misguided desire to be decent to the current coaches. Secondly and most importantly: Many decisions need to be made NOW, especially decisions related to the squad. The current regime will not make the necessary personnel changes because this would destroy the vain hope of a turnaround this year. Rivera’s de facto role as general manager makes it too cumbersome to hire an interim GM while neutering him and leaving him only in the coaching role. More on this below. Third, we would like to see Eric Bieniemy given a shot at the head coaching job on a temporary basis. In the long run, he may or may not be the right man for the job. The only way to find out what he has is to give him a chance. Giving him a chance for the rest of the season is a risk-free attempt. Obviously Ron Rivera won’t resign for this.
Giants are working on former Bengals OT La’el Collins – Big Blue View, per report
According to NFL Network’s Mike Garofolo, the New York Giants will trade former Dallas Cowboys and Cincinnati Bengals forward La’el Collins. Ian Rapoport first reported that Collins worked out for the New York Jets on Tuesday. Both New York football teams are in desperate need of tackle help in the absence of their best offensive players. The Giants have been without second-team All-Pro left tackle Andrew Thomas since Week 2, and head coach Brian Daboll didn’t seem too optimistic about him playing this week. The Jets, meanwhile, lost right tackle Alijah Vera-Tucker for the second straight time this season.
