The authorities’ planned amount of 120 billion dirhams (around 11 billion euros) should benefit 4.2 million residents over a period of five years, according to a press release from the royal cabinet.

The program concerns in particular the “resettlement of the affected people, the reconstruction of housing and the rehabilitation of infrastructure,” says the text, which came at the end of a meeting chaired by King Mohammed VI. has been published. It must also enable the “development and upgrading of areas” and promote “economic activity” in these largely disadvantaged regions.

Since September 8, survivors have been relocated to the camps where they live with the help of authorities and volunteers. The number of people made homeless by the earthquake is unknown.
