The wedding turns out to be more eventful than expected. Sharon joins Linda, Denise, Kathy, Suki and Stacey at the Vic as they all try to process the events of that day.

However, none of them could have predicted what would happen next, because the lives of the six changed forever when a male resident of Walford met his death.

Ahead of the hour-long episode, showrunner Chris Clenshaw has hinted that new steps have been taken to ensure the outcome of the episode remains a closely guarded secret.

He said: “We have used various methods throughout the year to keep the plot secret and to ensure that the Christmas episode and the big reveal about who is on stage – and who is doing it – remains secret until the 25th. December.

“Unfortunately I can't reveal what the methods are as that would give everything away, but it would be a real shame if anyone spoiled the surprise as we know how much audiences love watching the drama unfold in real time .”

Ahead of the Christmas episode, viewers have seen various storylines surrounding the six come together, culminating in a dramatic festive showdown.

Explaining where each character finds themselves in the run-up to Christmas, Chris said: “Stacey struggles to follow Theo and in her desperation to find out the truth about Eva's whereabouts, she finds herself bonding with someone who is carrying her .” Surprise.

“Suki is very worried about Eve and will risk everything to find out if her husband Nish is behind Eve’s sudden disappearance.”

“Linda is further tormented by Dean Wicks and his actions are causing old habits to die hard for our landlady.”

“Sharon intends to marry Keanu Taylor on Christmas Day, keeping from him the truth that her son Albie is actually Phil Mitchell's son, but that's not a secret Sharon can keep and secrets never last long in the Square secret.”…

“Denise's marriage to Jack has been on the rocks since her affair with Ravi Panesar earlier this year, but comes under even more pressure when one of them breaks her wedding vows just before Christmas.

“Kathy is heartbroken to discover that her husband Rocky Cotton was behind the arson attack on their beloved cafe, which sent her two grandchildren to hospital and left Peter fighting for his life. Since Kathy was cheated out of all her savings, she had no choice but to sell her pride and joy just before Christmas.'

The storylines have been praised by many viewers for revitalizing the soap this year, and episodes are expected to continue well into 2024.
