Eastern Townships: The thaw sows spoilsports

The warm temperatures and rain of recent days have played a spoilsport in Estrie, where many families have not been able to enjoy winter activities as usual.

At the André-Nadeau outdoor base, we have to wait for a new snowfall to renew the trails but also to resume almost all the work to prepare the slide surfaces to be able to enjoy the tube slides and the ice rink again.

In Sherbrooke, of the thirty or so outdoor ice rinks that are normally available, only one is open: the Bleu Blanc Bouge, which ice is chilled. All other ice rinks in the city are on asphalt or gravel.

Many parents and children used the infrastructure and the free skating in the arenas.

Easier to ski

The region’s ski resorts are also holding their breath, despite traffic and conditions being mostly good for the first week of the holiday season.

All participants agree that before Mother Nature’s upheaval, the trails were full of tourists and Quebecers and that the real results will come at the end of the season.
