Eastern Ukraine: Six postal workers killed in rocket attack

Six postal workers were killed and 16 others injured, some seriously, after a rocket exploded at a distribution center in Kharkiv, eastern Ukraine, on Saturday night. The Ukrainian shared this President Volodymyr Zelensky through the Telegram information service.

The first photos show a building with broken windows. The Kharkiv regional governor, Oleh Syniehubov, said that all the victims worked for the postal company. According to police, 22 people were in the building when the Russian S-300 missile hit the building shortly before 10:30 pm local time. Investigators, together with forensic scientists and forensic experts, are now carrying out an examination of the bodies. Governor Syniehubov wrote on Telegram that the victims were aged between 19 and 42 and suffered mainly shrapnel injuries from the explosion. He said the private delivery company in the western suburb of Kharkiv, called Korotych, was “a civil place.”

“The Russians continued to terrorize the peaceful population of Kharkiv,” he added. President Zelensky announced that a rescue operation was still underway. Syniehubov later stated that seven people were in hospital in “moderate condition” and another seven men were in “critical condition”.

Russia has not yet commented on the alleged attack, but has previously denied targeting civilians during its invasion of Ukraine. Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second largest city, is just 30 km from the Russian border.
