According to the Public Employment Service (AMS), employment in Lower Austria is still growing strongly. Unemployment is 1.8 percent in Horn district, 2.0 percent in Waidhofen an der Ybbs, 2.1 percent in Scheibbs district, 2.3 percent in Melk and Zwettl districts and 3.0 percent percent in the Amstetten district on Friday.
According to the AMS, 44,063 people were looking for work at the end of June, 20.2% less than in June 2021 and 17.9% less than before the start of the coronavirus pandemic in June 2019 Compared to June 2019, 3 .8% to 661,000 people.
At 5.1 percent, the unemployment rate at the end of June was at its lowest level since June 2008 (4.7 percent) and 1.5 percentage points below the pre-crisis level of 2019, according to provincial councilor Martin Eichtinger (ÖVP) and AMS Lower Austria, who is responsible for the labor market – Boss Sven Hergovich. In the area of long-term unemployment, there was another decline. 7,037 people in Lower Austria are long-term unemployed, representing 19.7% of all unemployed.
Never before have there been so many vacancies as now
More and more jobs would show “that the economy is running at full speed and needs workers,” says Eichtinger. At the end of June, 21,674 vacancies were registered in AMS Lower Austria, which is 32.1% more than a year earlier and represents a new record value since registrations began in the 1960s.
The largest increases in vacancies are in the area of temporary work (58.8 percent more), followed by trade, tourism and production of goods. According to the AMS, there is only a decrease in vacancies in the construction industry (down 3.2 percent).
