Ecuador Assembly ratifies report recommending censorship trial against Lasso TRT Español

The Assembly of Ecuador gave the green light to the report of the commission recommending a censorship process to the President of the South American country, William Lasso.

According to the report, Lasso knew about the activities of his brother-in-law Danilo Carrera and his friend Rubén Cherres, who are under investigation on drug trafficking and corruption charges, but he has not taken the case to court.

In total, 104 of the 125 members present at the meeting approved the report, 18 voted against and three abstained.

The approved report is not binding, but the Assembly would reconvene to ask for the President’s disqualification if he is found guilty at the end of the trial.

The opposition, which has long accused Lasso and his associates of corruption, is calling for the president to be removed.
