In elections held in Ecuador over the weekend, the country elected businessman Daniel Noboa as its next president. Noboa, 35, will officially be the youngest president in the country’s history and will take office next December for a period of 16 months, the remainder of the current term of President Guillermo Lasso, who dissolved the National Assembly and preempted the elections.

With more than 52% of the vote, Daniel Noboa won in the second round ahead of candidate Luisa González. “Today we made history, Ecuadorian families have chosen the new Ecuador, they have chosen a country with security and employment. “We are living through a country of reality in which promises are not kept in the election campaign and corruption is punished,” reported Daniel Noboa via his social networks.
Economy and security are the two main axes that Noboa must address, as he explained during his election campaign. Noboa studied business administration at the Stern School of Business, public administration at Harvard Kennedy School and holds a master’s degree in governance and political communication from George Washington University.
As part of his experience in the public sector, he joined the Ecuadorian Congress in the 2021 elections, where he was elected legislator of the Province of Santa Elena and was President of the Economic Development Commission in Parliament.
The elected president is the son of banana entrepreneur Álvaro Noboa, who was a presidential candidate several times but was unsuccessful.
