Ecuador plans advantageous free trade agreement with Costa Rica

Quito, December 20 (Prensa Latina) Ecuador announced the conclusion of a free trade agreement with Costa Rica, an agreement that Guillermo Lasso’s government now considers very beneficial.

In a message published on his social networks, during his visit to Washington, United States, the President indicated that after discussions with his Costa Rican counterpart, Rodrigo Chávez, they had sealed the pact that would combine agribusiness and the manufacturing sector will favor.

He commented that it will also allow to attract technological products, medicines and raw materials, among others.

In a statement, the Ministry of Production, Foreign Trade, Investments and Fisheries assured that the trade instrument will make it possible to achieve the goals of regional integration as well as Ecuador’s strategic presence in Central America and the Caribbean.

He also stressed that it will facilitate preferential access for 96 percent of current exports, mainly products such as paper, steel wire, textiles, home appliances, electrical appliances, detergents, plastics, chemicals and construction products.

In return, it will enable the purchase of Costa Rican products, such as metals, iron and steel for industry, medicines for human use, medical instruments and devices, on better terms.

As reported, the signing of what is officially known as the Ecuador-Costa Rica trade association agreement is to take place after compliance with the respective legal review procedures at a date that will be announced by both governments in the near future.
