Ecuador’s electoral body could suspend elections in three countries

Quito, October 12 (Prensa Latina) The National Electoral Council (CNE) of Ecuador will decide in the next few hours whether to suspend the elections next Sunday, October 15, in Israel, Nicaragua and Russia, said the president of the Organization, Diana Atamaint, stated today.

As he explained, the decision on whether the 293 Ecuadorians registered on Israeli territory will be allowed to vote depends on a State Department report on the security situation in that country.

Regarding Nicaragua, Atamaint noted that it is very likely that the vote will not take place due to the break in diplomatic relations between Quito and Managua.

Meanwhile, the packages with ballots and electoral materials are still on their way to Russia and the CNE will wait until the last moment to make a decision about the vote in that country.

You need to estimate the time, because after the material arrives in the Eurasian country, the process follows to remove it from customs and then distribute it.

More than 409,000 Ecuadorians registered in constituencies abroad will be able to vote in person next Sunday after the telematic voting system failed in the first round on August 20.

On this occasion, they will be able to vote on the election of the President of the Republic between Luisa González, of the Citizens’ Revolution, and Daniel Noboa, of the National Democratic Action Alliance, and will receive two more ballots for the election of legislators representing migrants and nationalities members of the Assembly.

This Thursday, early voting began in the national territory for more than four thousand prisoners without legal punishment who can express their will during this time.

As part of the electoral calendar tomorrow, people with physical disabilities will exercise their right to vote and have their ballots delivered to their homes.

Today ends the election campaign of the executive candidates, who will face each other in a runoff election in which experts have not yet dared to predict a clear winner.
