Prohiben en Francia manifestaciones frente al Consejo Constitucional

Ecuador’s newly installed legislature forms its commissions

In a meeting this Sunday, two days after the creation of the new Parliament, the assembly members decided that the leadership of the remaining 15 commissions would go to the Social Christian Party (PSC), which, together with the RC and ADN, reached an agreement in the interest greater parliamentary stability for the good of the nation.

In particular, the RC will lead the Justice and State Structure Commissions; Autonomous governments, decentralization, competencies and territorial organization; transparency, citizen participation and social control; and constitutional guarantees, human rights, collective rights and interculturality.

In addition, this group, which has the largest majority, will lead the delegations for the comprehensive protection of girls, boys and young people; and supervision and political control, the latter is controversial because it initiates the processes of political litigation against the authorities.

Last Friday, Ecuador’s new National Assembly was established after six months without a legislative session due to the crucifixion decreed by outgoing President Guillermo Lasso.

MP Henry Kronfle of the PSC was elected President of the Assembly, while Viviana Veloz of the RC and Eckenner Recalde of the ADN held the positions of first and second vice-presidents, respectively.

Among the first parliamentary debates will certainly be the two urgent economic laws that future ruler Daniel Noboa will pass after taking office, according to official lawmaker Valentina Centeno.

This National Assembly, elected in extraordinary and early elections, will have a short term until May 2025 to complete the term that began in 2021.
