I think what will really destroy this site is if sport leaves it,” he said. “If Bluesky or Threads can really capture the sports posts, Twitter will be over. It is finished. Because right now Bluesky really needs a video. If Bluesky had video, I think it would be a compelling competitor. And Threads is terrible, which is the only advantage that X/Twitter/Rate-My-Nudes, whatever it’s called right now, actually has.”

“People want to see what the latest brand has to say about branded goods. It's strange, and when you see these posts and see people genuinely interacting with them, it feels like you've entered a new world that you don't like. Yes. But that's how social media works. And if these brands just stop posting then that's bad, but I'm really serious, it's going to be the sport, it's going to be the live reactions that kill this website.”
Zitron, who writes the Substack “Where's Your Ed At,” said we could well expect the world's richest man to lose his title because of his terrible mismanagement of X.
“The only way to fix Twitter right now, and I really mean it, is for him to leave and never come back. He almost has to delete his account. He needs to go away and give it to Magic Johnson or someone completely harmless. But he won't do it because he can't admit that every decision he made was bad,” he said. “He blames everyone for his problems but himself.” He even said the anti-Semitic comment was bad, but then didn't delete it and told advertisers to go fuck themselves. He does not care.”
“Twitter is burning a hole in his pocket. He may be the richest man in the world, but guess what? He does not have unlimited resources. He will have to sell Tesla shares. Right? Or he could take SpaceX public. But in my opinion that is impossible before 2027.”
