House goddess Nigella Lawson says she uses cooking to overcome shame and low self-esteem in other areas of her life.
“Shame really encroaches on a life; Shame can really haunt life,” says the How To Eat author.
“My path was like, ‘I’m someone who can poach an egg, and I’m someone who can bake a cake.’ We’re so quick to limit ourselves and say, ‘I’m not the kind of person who can do this.’

Lawson, 63, who recently filled theaters on the US tour of her latest book, Cook, Eat, Repeat, reveals she used to be nervous when it came to speaking in front of an audience.
“When I was younger, I never thought I could be on a stage and talk to people, and I was like, ‘Of course that’s not going to happen, I’m too nervous,'” she says.
“It taught me to be braver in other areas of my life by overcoming my fears in the kitchen.”
‘Love Tornado’: Mumsnet guru splits from C4 boss husband
Justine Roberts, co-founder of Mumsnet, the website that has its finger on the pulse of middle-class parenting dilemmas, has revealed she left her husband after being “hit like a tornado” by love for someone else.
I understand Roberts, 55, who has been married to Channel 4 manager Ian Katz, 54, for 25 years, is now living with a new partner.
“I just fell in love — even though I don’t want to go with anyone,” she says. “Obviously what happened was neither planned nor ideal. I didn’t sit there and think, ‘I have to get out of there [this marriage]’, but, ‘[Love] literally hit me like a tornado.

“I’m sure menopause has something to do with it — you lift your head a little bit from raising your kids, you’re a little less tired and you’re like, ‘Actually, I might have half a life left.’ In my case it was subtle, but I was open to a different way of life and a different relationship.”
Roberts has four children with Katz, the chief content officer at Channel 4, whom she met when they were students at Oxford University. Their split, she tells the Daily Telegraph, “was traumatic and disturbing. Because we, as a society, are not designed to believe that separation and divorce are anything other than failure.
‘[Ian and I] had a fantastic time. I felt like I had the best marriage of all and I wish our society would accept and celebrate that instead of making people feel like failures because their relationship ended after about 30 years.

“But I also think there were some upsides – if you can be polite and put family first, which we did, it’s possible for both parties to come out.” [of the marriage] and have the rest of their lives and this new exciting experience.’
When asked how her kids took it, she replies, “Great. In many ways they see the benefit of two Christmases and things like that.” Katz declined to comment.

Prince Harry’s old friend Davina Harbord is far too busy to read his much-hyped new memoir.
I can reveal that Davina (left) – formerly known as one of the ‘Hardcore Harbords’ with her fast-paced sister Astrid – gave birth to their first child, a boy.

Mr Loophole makes the law – at home!
Nick Freeman (pictured) clearly doesn’t mind bringing his work home
Nick Freeman is nicknamed “Mr. Loophole” for helping celebrities like David Beckham and Sir Alex Ferguson flee driving convictions, and Nick Freeman doesn’t mind bringing his work home.
I understand the 67-year-old lawyer has had a royal coat of arms courtroom installed in his conservatory at the Cheshire mansion he shares with his wife Adi Joseph, 47. “This was by far my favorite birthday present,” he explains. “Now if there’s a fight at home and someone says, ‘You’re not in court now,’ I can say, ‘Oh, yes, I am.’ ‘
Freeman recently insisted he didn’t make a fortune off his wealthy clients, saying of his work for Beckham: “Given the tremendous amount of work involved in this case, I estimated my hourly rate to be less than £10.”
Is this showing King Charles that he is unperturbed by Prince Harry’s attacks? I understand he has booked pop singer Billy Ocean for a concert at his Norfolk retreat, Sandringham, in May. Ocean is of course best known for the hit single When The Going Gets Tough, The Tough Get Going.

A different kind of “air ticket” is being sought – someone who can ensure the royals’ flights run smoothly. Buckingham Palace is promoting an operations officer to oversee the progress of every helicopter flight carrying members of the company.
The successful applicant for the £34,000-a-year post will “work regularly with security agencies”. The advert on the royal website reads: “In this role you will join the King’s Helicopter Flight Team. . .’ Ready to take off?
Comic Jack Whitehall, who is preparing to start his US tour next month, is particularly excited to perform in New York as it’s the only place where people are as irritable as they are at home.
“It’s the only city in the world where they’re as grumpy as we are in Britain,” says Jack, 34, who was educated at Marlborough College. “Even the guy who stamped the passports was terrifying.
‘He said, ‘What’s your job?’ I said, “Comedian,” and he said, “Are you as funny as Jerry Seinfeld?” I said, ‘Uh, no,’ and he said, ‘Right,’ and he stamped my passport.”
