Egypt calls on China to use its economic and political power to bring about a ceasefire in Gaza

While the Egyptian President received the King of Jordan, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly traveled to Beijing. Egypt was the first Arab country to establish diplomatic relations with the Chinese and is one of the main links in the Middle East. Now it’s about China using its economic and political weight to put pressure on a ceasefire.

“It is crucial to prevent an escalation of the conflict that could trigger serious humanitarian disasters,” the Chinese president said.

China has called for an end to the conflict but has not condemned Hamas terrorism drawing criticism from Americans and Israelis. This Thursday (19), President Xi Jinping declared that he defends the twostate solution with a Palestinian state alongside Israel.

In Berlin, the German Prime Minister said again that antiSemitism would not be tolerated in Germany. Olaf Scholz criticized Russian President Vladimir Putin’s statements in defense of peace in the Middle East while Russia is at war in Ukraine.

There were new clashes between proPalestinian demonstrators and the police on German territory. There were also protests for the Palestinian cause in Pakistan, Algeria, Paris and also in the capital of Israel’s largest ally, the USA. On Wednesday (18) 300 protesters were arrested in Washington. Part of the group broke into the American Congress and demanded an end to the attacks on Gaza. In New York the demonstration was proIsrael.

This Thursday (19), the Interior and Justice Ministers of the European Union met in Luxembourg to discuss the Union’s immigration policy. Obtaining an immigration or refugee document can become significantly more difficult. French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin said it was necessary to strengthen security mechanisms when assessing asylum applications.

Italy announced that it would ban the free movement of citizens in the border area with Slovenia. Italian intelligence warned that extremists could enter Italian territory there. Italy fears that the war between Israel and Hamas could further exacerbate the already complex issue of immigration to Europe.
