Egypt is building a field hospital near the shared border to treat injured Palestinians from the Gaza Strip. This will be built behind a state hospital in the city of Sheikh Zuweid, an Egyptian government official said today.
The city in the north of the Sinai Peninsula is about 15 kilometers from the Rafah border crossing. The field hospital will have at least 300 beds, Al-Masri Al-Jum newspaper reported.
Medical teams are ready
The hospital is also available for the injured, explained local representative Sali Abu Huli. He did not mention the number of beds available. “Sheikh Zuweid Hospital is ready to receive the injured and is equipped with all medical equipment for acute and emergency operations.”
Medical teams would be ready if the injured were allowed to leave the Gaza Strip for treatment in Egypt, he said. According to Mohammed Abdel Fadil Shusha, governor of North Sinai, other hospitals in the province have also been prepared to treat Palestinians from the Gaza Strip.
