Election calendar officially published in South Africa

According to a presidential statement, this comes after the president consulted with the Independent Electoral Commission (CEI).

The president also declared election day, May 29, 2024, a public holiday throughout the republic, the text continues.

The IEC is expected to hold a press conference on Monday the 26th on the status of preparations for the 2024 elections.

During the briefing, the company revealed that the commission will break down key aspects of the electoral calendar, including certification of the electoral roll, publication of polling station details, presentation of candidate proposals and other related matters.

On the 20th, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa set the date for national and provincial parliamentary elections in the country. Legal publication in the official gazette was required.

Speaking on the occasion, Ramaphosa called on all eligible voters to “participate fully in this important and historic milestone”, 30 years after the first democratic exercise of its kind was conducted in the country.

Beyond fulfilling our constitutional obligation, these upcoming elections are also a celebration of the democratic journey of all South Africans and a decision about the future we want, the President emphasized.

In South Africa's 2024 presidential election, future national and provincial governments will have to contest between candidates from the ruling African National Congress (ANC), the country's largest party, the Democratic Alliance (DA), and the Economic Freedom Fighters, in addition to a host of minority parties (EFF).
