The Salvadoran people must go to the polls again to decide who will be their president for the next five years. Therefore, as is customary in various countries of the world, on the days when the election takes place, the well-known dry law comes into force, restricting the consumption and sale of alcohol as a measure to optimize the normal development of the electoral process. of the moment in El Salvador.
When does dry law occur?
According to Salvadoran media reports, the dry law will take effect from the first minute of Saturday, February 3, 2024 and end with the last minute of Tuesday, February 6.

What is a dry law?
This law is based on Article 284 of the Electoral Law, which stipulates that the sale, distribution and consumption of alcohol/intoxicants are strictly prohibited during the period specified in this regulation.
What happens if you don't respect the dry law?
The same regulation stipulates that if the authorities catch citizens who do not comply with this law, they will face sanctions equal to the minimum wage in force in El Salvador. That is, a value of 365 dollars, as established in Article 253 of the Electoral Code.

When does voting start in El Salvador?
