Electric vehicles: This is what worries motorists the most

Although almost all Canadian EV drivers say they are satisfied with their purchase (97%), some post-purchase concerns remain, according to a CAA survey. Here are the most common.

Public terminals

Of the 16,000 EV owners surveyed, 44% said they were concerned about the availability of public terminals.

Long car journeys do not inspire full confidence. In fact, more than a third of respondents (36%) would not use their EV for long journeys. In addition, most of these drivers (67%) also own a petrol-powered vehicle, which they prefer for long journeys.

Cold and battery drain

Drivers reported that some concerns dissipated but did not entirely disappear after purchasing their EV. This is especially true for anything related to battery life.

Post-purchase concerns about this issue decreased by 37 percentage points to 30%. The same is true for cold-weather performance, with concerns dropping 25 percentage points to 33% and fears of battery degradation dropping 41 percentage points to 13% post-purchase.
