Eleven people were killed and four injured in an arson attack on a bar in northern Mexico on Saturday morning, authorities said.
The fire broke out at a facility in San Luis Rio Colorado, a city in the state of Sonora in the north of the country on the border with the United States.
“So far, eleven people have died, seven men and four women, and four injured are being treated at hospitals in San Luis Rio, Colorado, Sonora and the United States,” the Sonora Attorney’s Office said in a statement.
The same source said that in the early hours of Saturday a man threw a flaming object, believed to be a Molotov cocktail, at the facility he had just been expelled from for “disrespect for women”.
“The investigations to clarify the facts and to determine the corresponding responsibilities” and to identify the suspect are still ongoing, the public prosecutor said.
