Elias Pettersson signed an eight-year contract extension with the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday.
At the end of his agreement, the attacker will be $92.8 million richer. He therefore receives an annual salary of $11.6 million, making him the fifth highest-paid player on the Bettman circuit.
This contract extension ends weeks of speculation. Rumors of a trade with the Carolina Hurricanes surfaced earlier this week.
In 2023–2024, Pettersson collected 75 points, including 29 goals, in 62 games. He would have been eligible for salary arbitration this summer by signing a three-year, $22.05 million contract.
The Swede was selected by the Canucks in the first round (fifth overall) in the 2017 draft. In his career, he hit the target 165 times and delivered 233 assists for 398 points in 387 games.
