Elon Musk advised Joe Biden to buy a Tesla on Sunday, as the US President announced plans to build 5 lakh electric vehicle (EV) charging stations across the country.
Biden recently announced the release of the first round of funding for a nationwide electric vehicle charging network, which will fund the construction of stations in 35 states.
“We are building 500,000 electric vehicle charging stations across the country. The great American road trip will be fully electrified,” Biden wrote on Twitter.
Musk replied, “Or you can just buy a Tesla.”
Biden further wrote from the @POTUS account, “You hired me to get things done – I hope I make you proud.”
Musk replied again, “I kinda like this post (to be honest)”.
Earlier this year, Musk said no one was watching Biden after the president failed to mention Tesla during his State of the Union address.
“No one is watching the State of the Union,” Musk told CNBC.
Biden had touted Ford and GM’s combined $18 billion investment in building electric vehicles, while Tesla was not mentioned in Biden’s address to the nation.
Musk later tweeted directly at Biden, saying, “Tesla has created over 50,000 jobs building electric vehicles in the US and is investing more than twice that of GM + Ford combined.”
Biden “treats the American public like idiots,” the Tesla boss had said.
However, in his first-ever public acknowledgment of Musk-led Tesla’s contribution to the world of electric vehicles, Biden said in February that the country is building a reliable national public charging network to counter China’s challenge in the electric vehicle market.
“From legendary companies like GM and Ford building new electric vehicle manufacturing, to Tesla, our nation’s largest electric vehicle maker, to innovative younger companies, manufacturing is returning to America after decades,” he had said.
